From the early days to the foundation of the Association
Mountain biking began its conquest of the United States in the 1980s, after which mountain bike fever reached the shores of Europe, and Hungary, in the 1990s. As a result of the increasing popularity of the sport the Hungarian Mountain Bike Federation (MMTBSZ) was established in 1993. Since several mountain bike competitions were organized close to our city (in Miskolc, Eger and Salgótarján), the latest "cycling fashion" quickly spread to Ózd. With an ever growing number of young cycling enthusiasts banding together in Ózd the idea naturally arose to form our own cycling club and continue pedalling together within an association framework. Thus it was that in February 1999, the Ózd Cycling Association (ÓKÉ) was formally registered with 22 founding members as a nonprofit sports association at the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Court. The Association is structured as follows: the president, as representative of the members, and a secretary. In addition, one person oversees the mountain bikers and one person the tourers, while another individual carries out administrative duties. There is a general meeting at the beginning of each year, at which the leadership outlines the various tasks accomplished over the previous year, the budget, the achievements and - together with the membership of the Association - the tasks for the coming year are determined and a joint decision is reached on the annual membership fee.
Our Association is a member of the Hungarian Cycling Federation, the Hungarian Mountain Bike Federation and the Borsod County Cycling Federation.
The greater part of the resources necessary for the maintenance of the club are covered by funding from the local government of Ózd and revenue generated from the membership fees, the 1% personal income tax personal allocation and from tenders.

Professional activities
The team was supported in overcoming the difficulties encountered in the first year (the fact of it being a new sporting branch, lack of precedents, experience and money) with sheer enthusiasm. In following years the Ózd local government provided the Association with operational support, allowing us to devote more attention to our professional activities. Following our foundation we became the association with the largest membership in the country.
Over the years mountain bike competition sport gradually became our main profile, while the touring section also survived, and it was pleasing to see that several people joined along with their families. In the year after our foundation we considered we were sufficiently strong to organize regional competitions, not once but twice, in the Farkaslyuk youth camp, since when we have repeated these two or three times each year, in the process developing the event into a national competition and meeting the demands of participating competitors. Right from the very start we devoted considerable effort to recruitment of junior members: as a consequence of regular training our young cyclists are among the top in the country. In order to continue developing we purchased a Lactate Scout lactate analyzer and Taxc Cosmos Ergotrainer in 2007, which allow us to monitor the performance of our competitors and provide huge assistance in planning training.

From year to year
2001
It is not by chance that the names of Ózd competitors have become known nationally. In 2001 our new junior team received the Hungarian Mountain Bike Federation award "for achievements in the development of junior and student competitors" as well as a diploma.
2002
In 2002 four of our junior competitors were admitted to the Hungarian team and competed successfully in cup races abroad. One of our racers (Májer Péter) was named Hungarian Champion in the U17 category during the year. The year also proved highly fruitful for our adult competitors; they finished with podium places in all the competitions they entered.
2003
Our results in competitions just continued to get better in 2003: we finished winners of the Hungarian cup race in the U17 category, Ádám Vasas collected silver at the Hungarian championship and he also won the titles "Best Sportsman of Ózd," "Most Successful Cycling Competitor of BAZ County", plus he also received an award from the local Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Youth. Our junior team took possession of a regional cup. Our team riders reached, and competed successfully in, several individual and team competitions abroad. To this day we are still receiving positive feedback for our 2003 performance in the 10-day, 2003-km-long national border cycling tour, which seven of our members undertook. In an assessment of our activities in 2003 the Mountain Bike Federation ranked the Ózd Cycling Association ninth from the 48 Hungarian sports associations, István Kovács became a first class competitor, Tamás Frölich moved into the DL class, Ádám Vasas became a gold badge, Norbert Fábián and Péter Májer were made bronze badges. We won the Ózd city 2nd Best Team prize.
2004
Our enthusiasm remained undiminished in 2004, taking us into mountain biking and marathon races, regional and international competitions. We once again celebrated a Hungarian champion (János Nagy), in the U13 category, and picked up a total of 33 gold medals, 14 silver and 15 bronze medals in various races. We made it into the first three in the international field at the first Central European marathon organized in Slovakia, and one of our members (István Kovács) was honoured with the title "Fastest Hungarian". We jumped to fifth place in the national listing.
2005
Our professional work in 2005 brought us further results. With a total of 38 gold, 26 silver and 19 bronze medals from Olympia Cross, Marathon and foreign competitions as well as junior cup races the Ózd Cycling Association moved into fourth position from among the 54 Hungarian associations in the Mountain Bike Federation, and we maintained our fourth placing even on the association list of 74 complemented with 20 foreign teams. It is particularly pleasing to note that the first three places in the list were taken by heavily sponsored professional teams from Budapest, meaning that ÓKÉ was in number one spot from among the provincial clubs. This was the first year that the regional juniors TITÁN Cup was organized in five rounds; ÓKÉ arranged the fourth round staged on 24 July. The Ózd juniors won in the team rankings.
2006
Once again in 2006 our athletes were present at domestic competitions in which they lifted 77 medals of which 32 were gold, 21 silver and 24 bronze. Racers took part in all the OX. Hungarian cup trials, marathon competitions, and in the national championships for these sports. István Kovács and Anett Nagy-Mengyi also returned home with bronze medals from the OX. Hungarian Championship staged in Csillebérc.

2007
In 2007 ÓKE competitors took part in 40 competitions in all, at which they collected 74 podium placings comprising 38 golds, 27 silvers and 9 bronzes. Bettina Vasas and Gergő Csépányi climbed to the highest position on the podium at the National Student Olympics, and Levente Peták was able to occupy second position. Similarly, István Kovács and Gergő Csépányi returned from the Olympic Cross Hungarian Championship with silver medals. Gábor Fejes finished first in the combined competition of the Hungarian national road race cup. Gábor achieved third in the Junior Mountain Bike Championship of the Republic of Hungary, missing top spot by just a few tenths of a second. The following cyclists came first in the combined competition of the Top Marathon series: Eleonóra Kónya, Bettina Vasas, Gergő Csépányi, István Kovács. Mrs. Béla Vasas came second. In the combined results of the Olimpia Cross Gergő Csépányi and István Kovács both took second place. In the Marathon Cross series Ákos Antal and Eleonóra Kónya achieved excellent second places in their categories.
2008
Our racers were no less active in 2008 and, similarly to previous years, they entered competitions organized around Hungary, bringing home great results. The following numbers reflect these great achievements of 2008: participation in 33 competitions, in the process collecting a total of 67 medals with 34 gold, 19 silver and 14 bronze. For the first time in the history of Ózd municipal student sports our Association organized a mountain biking student championship. The competition - in three rounds - was staged on 18 April, 2 May and 26 May on the hills behind Újvárostér Primary School. The objective of organizing this competition was not only to allow the city's students to test their abilities in the traditional sports (I'm thinking here of handball, football, athletics) but to have a go at a completely different sport. Furthermore, we also wanted young people to get hands on experience of the difficulties and attractions of mountain biking. Gábor Csépányi won third place in the National Student Olimpia. Thanks to the efforts of Bettina Vasas, an Ózd competitor could once again stand on the second step of the podium at the OX. National Championship.
Dezső Terbe achieved second place in the XCO Hungarian Cup, combined competition.
Eleonóra Kónya made it to third place in the XCM Hungarian Cup. In the Top Marathon series Ákos Antal and Dezső Terbe also came out winners.

2009
Without any bias at all we can state that 2009 was one of the most successful seasons ever. Our competitors threw themselves into training and competitions with the same determination and desire to prove themselves as they had in earlier years. They were worthy representatives and enhanced the reputation of our city and Association around the country. As far as the numbers go, last season shaped up as follows: from January right up until December our members set off in 54 competitions, in which they picked up a total of 81 medals (33 golds, 20 silvers and 28 bronze medals). They took part in the Hungary mountain bike and national road Hungarian cup series and in the national championships for these sports. Furthermore, thanks to Norbert Fábián, one of our competitors was entered for a continent race when Norbi was able to represent our Association and Hungary in the Belgian Hoogled Gits in the U23 time trials European Championship. In an extraordinarily tough field of competitors Norbi was able to get 57th position! In addition to this great achievement our cyclists also featured at several contests beyond the border and won several regional competitions. The most outstanding results, however, came at home events. Our competitors brought no fewer than four Hungarian Champion awards back to Ózd from Hungarian championships arranged in 2009. The four championship titles were awarded to the following sportsmen and sportswoman: Dezső Terbe (Cyclo-cross Hungarian Champion 2009), Zsófia Bódán (Marathon Hungarian Champion), Norbert Fábián (Track 4000m Hungarian Champion and Pairs Time Trial Hungarian Champion).
